do a search of this forum on issues people have had in the care and feeding of their rubber roofs. just another hassle that I wouldn't want.
bumpy - luberhillExplorerok thx...what maintainence is on the rubber roofs ??
- JNortonExplorerI had a 98 Ford E350 chassis and put 5,000 miles on it with 56,000 miles on the clock. No handling problems. I have a 2008 E450 with 9,000 miles on it and have experienced no handling problems. The problem with forums is those who have no problems normally keep quiet so you only here from those who have problems. Sometimes it can give a distorted view. And no I do not discount that the handling problems some face are real. I just have not experienced any.
- BruceMcExplorer IIIWe've had a rubber roof on the last two units, both are fine given a modicum of care. I wouldn't let it get in my way of considering the unit.
- Most Cs will have a rubber roof- nothing wrong with those. Nothing wrong with either Ford or Chevy, just a little different. My Ford handles and drives fine with no expensive modifications and I've spent virtually nothing on repairs in 12 years- at least on the chassis. :) Cab noise and comfort are perfectly acceptable.
You spend much more time living in your RV than driving it, so it's what's behind the cab that really matters. JMHO. - luberhillExplorerIts in GREAT shape..these people are older and super fussy...so I guess the rubber roof is a no-no ??? I hought most RV's had a rubber roof....he wants 40k for it..I really would like to spend half of that and get a 27ft or less with at least one slide out.....
Any hope of finding that ? - BruceMcExplorer IIIOurs is a "Four Winds Five Thousand 26Q", which is 27' overall. While the model number suggests the length, don't be fooled. Some are close, as in ours, others, for example: X26A is really a 30' coach.
As an aside, I wish we had the GM chassis instead of the Ford, but it is what we found for the price as the time. More importantly, is the floor plan what you'd like? Any water damage or other issues? If you like it and it's in good shape for a good price, don't let it get away from you. - IAMICHABODExplorer IIAt least with the Chevy Chassis you wont have the wandering problems that the Fords have.As seen on This Thread
The Chevy Chassis is not prone to all the problems that the Fords seem to have, that take a lot of time and money to fix.
The Chevy also has more leg room and is quieter.
They seen to get about the same MPG though.
Also to answer the other question the length.
Mine is a 26Q, the same 26Q on a Ford is 26.5 feet long but on a Chevy Chassis it is 28 Ft long, the Chevy Chassis is 9 in longer than the Ford thus giving more legroom and a larger cockpit - BumpyroadExplorerI wouldn't buy a rubber roofed RV myself. too many other options. did the guy even know what he had if it is TPO?
bumpy - ronfishermanModeratorWhat type of Roof?
My 34' real length is 35' 1". Most are longer than there manufactured length.
If Fourwinds called it a 25C then that is what it is.
