Looking for Suggestions on a Gasser for $60K

I am budgeting $60K for a used gasser and am looking for suggestions on what you guys think are great quality coaches in that price range. I have a additional money set aside for tax/license, warranty, etc. Looking for at least 35' and must have the CCC to tow 5K. A nice feature would a sectional, but not mandatory. I value your opinions so I hope you take the time to respond. My previous coach was a 1999 National Tropi-cal 36' V-10. What are the top quality brands and which should I steer clear of?
Thanks!

  • I can't recommend any specific rigs, but for brands I'd recommend the top gasser lines of Tiffin & Winnebago.

Our rig is on the W-22 (22,000 lb. GVWR) Workhorse chassis with the Allison transmission. If you find a WH rig and it is on the W-22, as mentioned previously, make sure the brake recall has been done. The W-24 (24,000 lb. GVWR chassis) did not need the recall.

I would snoop around on sites like RVTrader.com.

    Good Luck in your search.

  • I have a 2007 Safari Simba on a Workhorse W-22 chassis. 8.1 GMC engine with a 1000 Allison Tranny. The combination of engine and transmission has been pretty much bullet proof. As stated before there was a recall on the brakes several years ago. Can't imagine one not having been repaired, but you should check to make sure. We have had plenty of power for anything we wanted to do. We pull a 4 door Jeep Sahara. One of the complaints I see on the forum about gasser's is the noise in the cockpit. We do not have that problem at all.
  • Get a 2006 or newer unit with a Ford V10. That will have a 5 speed tranny and 362 hp. We like our Itasca and find that 35' is plenty spacious (2 slide-outs) and easy to get in and out of camping spots.
  • I looked hard and long for a 2006 SouthWind 37c,V10 , tow haul trans,15000 mi,Payed 58000 2 years ago,I now tow a 2015 Captiva, climb hills at 50mph,7mpg on cruse control. The triple slide is just what my wife,my Lab and Me need. I think its my last mot home,Look at private party sale,Better than a dealership.
  • Eric, I suggest whatever make and year you purchase that you buy the top of the line model for that year. A fun website to browse for good used coaches is Demartinirv.com there located East of Sacramento!
  • Bounder by Fleetwood 36' model bath and a half with a HUGE shower. V10 with re-programmed tranny gives you plenty of power and is quiet when tranny is programmed correctly.
  • Sectionals you usually see in the most newer models, for $60K your years will be around 2006 to 2010 depending on the model and condition as you already know.

What I would be looking for is the chassis, if its a Ford just make sure the chassis is 2006 or newer and if its a Workhorse make sure the front brakes have been repaired under the recall.

I also think above 35 foot on a gasser the towing rate can go down as low as 4000 lbs but that does not mean you cant tow 4500 if you need to.
