Looking for trade advice

I am interested in trading my 04 Georgie Boy Landau 3525 TS on WH chassis and need advice on realistic expectations. The trade would be for a used 15 Forest River Georgetown 377 XL. This unit has 12,000 miles and is priced at $99,000. Understanding dealers don't use NADA values, what would be a reasonable starting point for my trade? My unit is in excellent condition with 25,000 miles and numerous upgrades, including new tires in 2015 with less that 500 miles, 3 LCD tv's, etc. Also, should I expect more money taken off the Georgetown? Any advice would be appreciated as I will be visiting the dealer in the next day of so.
  • Vegas1, that is excellent news!!!! Can't wait to see the pics!

I was expecting them to play games with you. It looks like you found a good dealer that didn't try and switch numbers.

    Congratulations!

  • UPDATE. Today I returned to the dealership to go over the 2012 Itasca 37F with a fine tooth comb. Took it for a long test drive and could not believe how much better it handled than my WH W-22. Very comfortable ride for a gasser using the Ford 24,000 chassis. I was quite pleased with the unit, so I go back to the office with the expectations of bad news regarding the preliminary numbers I received yesterday.
A contract was drawn up and showed my trade as $35,000 and the selling price of the unit I wished to buy as $99,999. Low and behold, these were the same numbers I was verbally given yesterday. After reviewing the contract, I signed before somebody changed their mind. I thought this was a pretty good deal, especially since my coach was never even seen. I feel like I was a winner and will take delivery next Friday!
P.S. Trying to post pictures, but having difficulty using I-Pad IOS
  • Vegas, the important number is the 'difference'. If the numbers are acceptable, then go for it!

But, what might happen is, once you get there, the number could be totally different. Obviously, from looking on the net, your asking retail for your '04 but you will never know.

Just have to check out everything.

    Again, good luck.

Here is another 2012 unit with 12,900 miles......

  • Thank you for your responses! I went to the dealership today and started by telling the sales person that I did not want to negotiate; just give me your best deal. Looking at the Georgetown almost made me cry. It was a beautiful coach last year when it was new, but this had been totally abused. Interior woodwork and stainless was scratched. There were 2 large water stains running down the headboard. Bed Spread was ripped, cigarette burns in the leather recliner, The couch was very dirty as were the captain and co-pilot seat! The right side had moderate body damage. This was totally unacceptable for a 1 -year old coach!
Before I could run out of there, the sales person offered to show me a 2012 Itasca 37F. I was very impressed with this loaded unit and it was very clean with no visible flaws. The price was the same as the Georgetown, $99,999. The only questionable thing was the mileage was 38,000. Seems a bit high, but should I be concerned?
On to my original question regarding the trade. After telling the sales person what I had to trade, he asks, "How much do you want?" I told him $35,000. He did not even flinch and did his normal "I will be right back" Few minutes later, he returns and tells me his manager agreed with my request. I was kinda surprised, almost like I should have went higher!
I will be returning tomorrow with the DW and see if she approves. Sounds like a good deal to me. What to you folks think? Is it too good to pass up?
  • When i've traded in the past they didn't even look at my RV. The condition or extras didn't matter .They don't care. The price was a low amount which is wholesale, well below retail numbers. Of course they can "play" with the numbers by giving you more for your trade and charging more for the new one Many dealers Jack the "newer" coach price up on the lot to "look" like they are giving you more than wholesale ... reality is they aren't. Call a Bank and ask what the Wholesale is on your current coach. The dealer and the bank have the Wholesale numbers.
  • The dealer here in Ohio where I bought my new 2015 XL 377TS has a 2014 XL 377ts with just over 5,000 miles for 97,500. Retail on it is 109,000. I paid 112,500 for mine new with an MSRP of 172,500. I would say the price is close to what could expect to pay for a 2015.
  • Mr. Bill, just doing a quick search of a used vehicle similar to yours (since I really don't know all of your options)... the prices 'retail' from from $34,900-$37,995 (I found 4 units).

The new 'used' coach that you found, I found a new '15 for an advertised price of $119,900 (again, not knowing the options....so it could be apples and oranges). Those seem to MSRP up to $176,000.

I bet they will offer you around $22,000 for yours and their price will probably stay firm at $99,000 which doesn't seem too bad with a quick look on the internet.

    Let us know what happens.

    Good luck,
    MM.
  • I don't think there's an exact trade in price, but my experience has been about 15% below low NADA.........and don't figure extra, other then mileage on looking at NADA.
  • The price on the Georgetown sounds high. I almost bought a brand new one last fall for $105,000
From Buffalo RV at the show in Syracuse.
