Just wanted to circle back and tell you all thank you for the help and suggestions. Turns out I had the wires on backwards. The white wire, which is a ground goes on the barrel of the cigar lighter/power outlet, which sits inside of the dash. The yellow wire is the hot wire and goes on the back of the power outlet.
