LP Detector electrical question.

We just bought an OLD class C and have been working on all of the systems to bring it back to life. One thing I know is that the house battery is dead, kaput, shot. But when we checked the breaker box (relative to a different issue) we found a 15amp fuse missing. Stuck in a new fuse and the LP detector (still within it's useful life expectancy) started chirping indicating a "no power" situation, understandable because of the dead battery. Now here's my question. Since the detector is hard wired to the dead battery, why does it care about a fuse in the breaker box? BTW: Pulled the fuse back out and the chirping stopped.
