I have actually laid the antenna in the left corner dash near the windshield parked in driveway and the signal is great. I'll test it out on a trip.

I'd stick an electrical box cover to a fiberglass roof, maybe even the fiberglass A/C shroud. But I fear it'd try to lift the rubber roof into a bubble or a tear...

I had the same problem with the Winnebago. I finally used 3M double sided extreme tape and it works fine. It has been on 3 years now with no issue. I stuck the antenna on the roof just over the driver's side. Ran the wire down the side channel of my windshield down into the engine compartment and up through the doghouse and on to the dash where I connected it to the receiver. Hope this helps.

I ran into the same issue when mounting the mag antenna for my Cell Amp. What I did was I got a 4" x 4" piece of magnetic metal from Home Depot, just a plate for a electrical junction box if I remember correctly. I got some two sided 3M tape, the heavy duty stuff that is rubber in the middle, not the cheap stuff that has a foam layer in it. I used the 2 side tape to mount it to the rubber roof and then used Dicor LAP sealant around it. I did a write up that has pictures if you want to see the details...
