Finally getting my motorhome in the shape it deserves. 2 trips under our belt, about 3k. No major problems. Getting ready for a winter run from ontario to florida then west to California. Gonna hug the southern border. No hurry I have till spring. My unit has 55k miles on her 8.1 Chevy. Just replaced shocks. My tech advised a tune up before this trip. No issues with drivetrain and I thought this was a bit early for this work. Your thoughts are appreciated. Unit is 2003 Damon intruder on workhorse w22 chassis

Sounds like you got it covered. I too will be leaving in a month to do just the opposite trip heading east. But won't stay the winter. I too wonder if my preparations are enough.. One can only do what they can do and let the rest up to fate . Like the bumper sticker said.. If you can't adjust stay home.:-)

The scheduled maintenance, per the Workhorse manual, for your spark plugs are to replace at 100,000 miles. Mine have over 80,000 miles and I see no need to replace them. I would look at your plug wires to make sure that they are in good shape but other than that, what is there to tune up?Naturally you want to look at your fluids, belts, and lubrication but I don't think you need a tune-up if the vehicle has been running fine.

All fluids replaced. All filters replaced. New serpentine belt. New tires. New shocks. Serviced brakes. Ready to roll. Gonna leave plugs as is. Thx guys

Hoses? They are rubber parts too and 13 years is a long time.Charles

Ya. I pulled the bottom hose off the rad to change antifreeze. I'm thinking this would be the week point. All looked good.... maybe I should carry a spare. Is this a standard hose I can pick up at a auto parts store?

Thanks for the heads up about the brake recall. **** this site has all the answers. No problem I have all the service records. Brake recall and windshield fit issue were done.

Your coach is from the period of the Workhorse brake recall. I had a W22 in my Mountain Aire from '03 and had the problem. Be sure to flush that brake fluid

Changing brake fluid is an "every 2-3 year" thing.

Brake fluid starts out clear. As it absorbs moisture (to protect the iron components of the brake system), it starts to darken. Light tan an is marginally OK. Darker means big bucks for repairs.

AND, new brake fluid boils about 500 degrees F. Hydrated brake fluid boils at 278 degrees F. If temperature in any part of the brake system exceeds boiling point, brake effectiveness goes away!

My neighbor had his WH brakes "flushed". I looked at the invoice he showed me and it listed ONE quart of brake fluid used. Basically what they did was bleed the brakes.
A complete flush on his unit takes over two quarts of fluid so expect to be charged for three quarts.

Brakes were serviced as per previous post but also some lines were suspect and replaced due to corrosion. Did not replace brake fluid. Will double check everything and concentrate on my route and places of interest. Thx for your help.

Before the roll 1 last check for tire psi (including spare!)

. How were the brakes serviced, pads changed caliper slides lubed or caliper replaced? Had mine "serviced" twice but the caliper hung up when I went out west last year and over heated rotors. Did your fluid change include brake fluid?

Life is a game of chance. Follow the maintenance schedule and relax. You don't need to take any spare parts. If you know what is going to go bad, fix it now, if you don't know what will go bad you won't have that part with you.

Save yourself a day's wait at a repair shop on the road and buy a spare fuel pump.
