major network satellite provider

This thread seems to be wandering all over the place. Did the OP return with a different name or have we switched subjects? The OP was asking about DirecTV Networks and, I assume, DNS like he had been getting with Dish through AAD.

I have had DirecTV for seems like forever. I use the 'service' address as a residence I had three years ago in Washington. The 'local' channels are out of the Seattle region. I get them as long as I am within the spot beam area. Sometimes as far south as Southern Ore. I get the DNS stations for both east (N.Y.) and west (L.A.) of the Mississippi. If I changed to local spot beam area I would only get networks from the side of the country I am located. I forgo home local channels and pick them up OTA. That way I always have my national networks.

locals and DNS channels are being confused here. with DNS I had a choice of New York or LA with Dish originally. with locals you can change your home location and get the channels spot beamed there.

You aren't the only one confused by the question. Dish furnishes my locals for free. In fact I didn't have locals and I called Dish for another problem and they said they noticed I wasn't getting locals and added them, no cost.

According to most what dish is doing is not according to the law but I wish I could get the DNS channels from DirectTV for free

This has been beat to death on here why DirectTV charges and you can get them with Dish for free by changing your Zip code

Ah-so ... I now believe I understand. You want to get "Local Channels" but by local you mean where your bricks and sticks home is, not the true "Local Area" channels. I do not know aside from the internet, how to achieve that. Local channel access is decided by the current physical area major network provider I honestly do not know how to access Chicago channels unless like WGN, they are national channels.

DirecTV provides the DirecTV service. Are you referring to the DNS Networks as you would have gotten from All American Direct if you were a Dish customer? If so, that comes from DirecTV. There is only one provider needed for both services. You will out the RV waiver and the service is added to your current account. The DNS channels come in on channels 390-399.

DirecTV will provide these networks if you apply for an RV waiver. $10-$20 a month.
