Making progress on getting the new coach bugs worked out

In September 2016 we had to part with our 2008 Sightseer as the bins were literally rotting off the coach. We ended up gettting a 2016 Winnie Sunstar 31BE that was priced "right" with the idea that we would get rid of it at the 5 year mark to avoid the bin rot and then get a coach that had rotocast bins. From the beginning it was much louder that the old Sightseer going down the road, the door lock worked only part of the time (dead bolt seldom, and sometimes being locked outby the other lock), no downshift in tow haul and enough gaps that we were raisng loads of mice.

We took it back to the dealer to have the door worked on which was a first in a lifetime of Rving as I generally just fix stuff myself. They said the door was "fixed" but still screwed up and I will just replace the lock and latch unit rather that drive 8 hours round trip to the dealer. Regarding the noise the dealer was clueless but when talking to Winne the gal asked about the weep hole covers. (we were missing four) I will most likely order those but for now I put some black hundred mile an hour tape over the holes and we now have the quietest coach we have ever had, even in 40 mile an hour cross winds! AS to the lack of a downshift in tow haul the folks on this board had the TSB number for the 2016 issue and the local Ford dealer took care of that yesterday so it is now like driving an old friend. Finally, as to all the hitch hiking critters, the gaps that Winne left for the plumbing and such have now been sealed with "Great Stuff" and the Critters will now have to find an alternative method of transportation.
My purpose in outlining all of the trials and tribulations we have had is to remind folks not to get discouraged if they have bugs that need worked out on a new or used unit. Safe travels!!
  • Since you have plugged the 'weep holes' watch for water running inside the coach instead of outside as it was designed. Just order new covers, they are cheap, and then not worry of the water rotting the walls.
  • It’s a shame we have to put up with this kind of quality in our RVs, but if they were built like the modern cars we would be paying hundreds of thousands of dollars more for them.
