I always have to chuckle about which RV will make it up a hill the fastest. In most cases, you're only talking a few miles per hour difference. Most grades are only a few miles long............so after buying a big engine RV or doing upgrades to increase your HP you go up the hill 10 mph faster then the guy in the slow lane..........you get to the top of the grade a minute or so sooner...........I've owned a couple of gas motor homes with 8.1 Chev engines............I've also owned DP with 400hp engines.........I wouldn't bet either way on which one would get to the top of the hill first. Remember, typically, gas or lower HP DP weigh less................as RV's go up in size, so does the weight, and typically so does the engine size. How fast I go up a grade is a low priority with me and I live in the west. More important is floor plan, condition, quality, etc etc.
