I live in Ct. and make this trip at lease once a year and I find that if you leave on a Sat or Sunday morning and take 95 over the GWB there is no traffic or tolls. If you travel on a week day if you make it to the GWB by 6 or 6:30 am there is some traffic but not bad. Heading back to Ct. or Mass take 95 north to rt 17 or 26 to 77,81 and 84 over the Newburg bridge into Ct. you will save on tolls and DC and NY traffic that way.
