Metal to fiberglass bonding

I have an Itasca Class A MH with a front panel access to the engine compartment. The front panel is attached to a metal frame that is attached to the front of the MH on the inside. The front of the MH is fiberglass. The metal frame is attached to the inside front of the MH with some type of adhesive. This bond has come apart. Any suggestions as to the best type of adhesive to reattach would be appreciated.
  • Structural adhesive

Structural adhesive will hold. I personally do not trust any tape alone even if it is 3M.

I used Structural adhesive for the metal to fiberglass connections on an airplane I built.

If you wish to attach it permanently, use 3M 5200. Most big box stores or any marine supply sell it. Easy to use because it comes in a 12 oz. caulk tube and metal to fiberglass will never separate after it sets up.

thanks for the 3M number. I couldn't recall which one it was.

  • When I had my last winnebago I glued the entire bottom rear cap on with gorilla glue. Never knew anyone else who used it but it held tight for several years until i got rid of it.
  • The panel access door to my genset (front on Diesel Pusher) came loose on my previous coach. The hinges were originally fiberglassed in. I used a couple of stove bolts on each hinge then painted them to match. It worked very well and was not noticeable at all.

I don't know what your doors look like but it might be an idea for you.
  • I was on a Winnebago Forum and two adhesives were used with success to fix the problem that you described. #1. JB Weld and #2. Winnebago Part #112901-02-000 Plexus MA330 Methacrylate Adhesive 50 ml. should be able to pick up at any Winnie Dealer
  • ask winnie what they recommend. I think the best stickum is one of the 3M adhesives.
