MH Microwave...worth fixing?

Our 12 year old above stovetop microwave/convection oven died today half way through baking a batch of muffins... probably overheated. Totally dead, no lights, no clock, no power. Eight hours later and room temperature, it's still dead. Normal 120 VAC at receptacle.

Is it worth attempting to remove, troubleshoot and fix, send for a mobile appliance repairman? or does it make more sense to plan for a new one? Is there a replaceable thermal cutout?

  • As stated take measurements and Go to Lowes or HomeDepot, don't think wally world will have a /convection oven one , at lease ours does not.
  • If you have some electronics knowledge it might be possible. Many have a fuse inside that can be replaced but it you have to pay someone to repair then I would replace it.
  • If you are tying to save money, check the craigslist for used one.
  • go down to wal mart and pick up a new one, take your space measurments with you.
  • Microwaves are one of those items that have "no user serviceable parts". It can however probably be fixed, but labor is what will get you. After 12 years it lived a long a useful life. Pitch it and buy a new one.
  • Not to oversimplify things, but did you check the house circuit breaker for that outlet?

Nevermind...I just saw that you said normal 120 at outlet. Sorry....
