Michelin Advantage Program

Looks like the FMCA considers my motorhome a light truck.
Am I still qualified to be a FMCA member, seeing how I travel in a light truck? GRIN

I'm hoping this message will entice those with 16" tires to lobby the FMCA to include us light truck owners in their discount tire program.

Below is a copy of the email I sent to the FMCA and their response.

Richard
1995 Bounder 32H F53 (with tiny tires)

I am interested in using the "Michelin Advantage Program".
My motorhome uses Michelin XPS 235/86R16 tires.
These tires were used on type A motorhomes up to and including 1998 and were used on type C motorhomes to a much later date.
Are they available through the "Michelin Advantage Program"?
If not, why?

Thanks

Richard:

The tire you are asking about is considered a light truck tire and currently is not available through the program. We hope to be able to offer these tires in the new future.

FWIW I just had six Michelin XRV 235/80R22.5 tires installed on my motorhome through the FMCA program. I checked around locally and could not get anywhere close to the program price. Saved a touch over $90 per tire over the best price I could find not using the program. Saved $350 per tire over a quoted price for Goodyear G670 RV tires. Our dealer (Meekof Tire in Mattawan,MI) got me all 6 less than 6 weeks old.
Congrats on your new tires! I ordered the same tires through the same program and the tires have been back ordered for 2 weeks now!

My dealer also told me of the backorder when we started. He spent a great deal of time and effort to locate fresh tires for me. We are very pleased with the tires and the service.

Shop around for the lowest price you can find on your size tires. You can find them for less than if you could buy through FMCA.

This statement would be hard to substantiate, (if we're still talking Michelin) since that tire size is not part of the FMCA program.

And as I said if he could buy through FMCA and he can't. But if the tire size is within the FMAC plan you can find them for less money then the plan, I know this twice over from buying tires.
It is darn hard to beat National Account Pricing, let alone be qualified to get it! And National Account Pricing changes with how you are qualified. FMCA may get one price, while another group or company may get another.

  • Had a Discount tire store manager tell me he would beat any ones price, even FMCA Advantage program prices. FMCA will also tell you "their price" may not be the lowest. just a reasonable price all across the country. I used the FMCA program and was satisfied. Discount tire would beat the price but could not mount them. All things considered I went with FMCA. Now, I think I was taken for about $30 plus. Michelin truck tire dealer and Michelin both charged me an environmental fee. Michelin told me they paid the state the fee and the dealer told me he had to pay the state and also he needed to be paid to haul the tires. The dealers story changed a little from one day to the next and from one person to the next. I just dropped the issue and went on down the road.
  • It was not FMCA that put the restrictions on what tires are available on the program. You need to talk to. Michelin and ask if your size is available.
  • Think you will have to lobby Michelin to include your "Michelin XPS 235/86R16 tires". FMCA worked long and hard to get Michelin on board with that program. FMCA has to work within the constraints of the program Micelin offered. They can't tell Michelin what to do.
