I bought 7 of the ltx,s a year or 2 before the recall and it seems some of them are holding up better than the others . Quality seems spotty depending on the batch it seems in my case . For the premium price tag with questionable quality ,i think i,ll shop elsewhere next time.
Also the thread pattern on these tires is really bad on picking up just about every possible piece of gravel!!! much more than any LT tire i,ve ever owned before.

Not exactly true. The Michelin LTX M/S 2's have been around for at least 3 years, I put a set on my F-150 almost three years ago and when I sold the truck 30,000 miles later they looked and rode like new. The M/S 2 was designed and built to replace the M/S which was a 20 year old design. The fact that Michelin chose to replace 1.5 million tires based up an infinitesimal number of failures speaks volumes as to their integrity.

If you have M/S's that are subject to the recall get them replaced immediately, though you may have to wait a bit for the replacement M/S 2's to come in due to high demand. The reason for the recall is there have been a few isolated incidents of tread separation coming without any overt warning signs. While the odds are low you have been warned and continuing to drive on them comes down to one simple question.... "Feeling lucky?"

  • I'm very pleased it applies to me! Two years of free tires already. Maybe I'll get three. Yep, 60 psi is what the Ford E350 sticker says and the Michelin chart is well below that. I went in to Costco in the city today. The guy I saw had no problem finding the recall and said it didn't matter that I lost my receipt because the record of the purchase is in the computer, including date codes for all 7 tires. Great tire store. I need four summer tires for the minivan and I never even asked the price because I know Costco has the best price and terrific service.
  • I wonder if the recalled tires are safe under lighter load and normal highway speed conditions. The heaviest of rigs requiring the full 80psi would be more stressful to the tires than a small lighter rig with 60psi in them.

I'm not suggesting to forget the recall, just maybe saying for people with light rigs, to take your time and get some use from your recalled ones as Harvy51 is considering. After-all if the stats mentioned by OldRadios is accurate with 200 out of 1.5 million tires failed, you have the same odds winning the state lottery. Better odds yet with a light weight rig.

I wished the recall applied to me. :)
  • I'm waiting to get some use out of those free tires before having them replaced. Curiously, the Costco tire shop here wasn't aware of the recall, though I got my recall notice letter from Costco.
  • They are replacing all the recalled MS tires with MS2s. They do not make MS tires any longer. I had mine replaced last week.

Michelin recalled 1.5 million tires. The delay was they filled recall orders for emergency vehicles first. I had to wait about 6 weeks for my new set.

There were 200 reported failures out of 1,500,000 manufactured. That's a failure rate of .0001%. I doubt any other make or model has a lower failure rate and I'm betting other manufacturers would not have a voluntary recall with that low percentage of failures.

Edit: Date code on my new ones 0514 (Feb. 2014)

  • Got ours installed in Feb. Shop ordered on Thursday, had them installed on Tuesday. Date coded Jan. 2014.

  • Had all 7 tires on our class C replaced with MS2's back in January under the recall. At that time it took a week to get the new tires, all of which had date codes from December 2013.
  • Our motorhome came with the MS2's and were not involved in the recall. They have them out there. I have heard on here that others have said it was going to be a while on the regular MS' . I overheard the manager of Discount Tire telling someone the other day that Michelin gets their rubber from Japan and apparantly in the part where the Tsunami hit, so there is/was a delay.
