Microwave or Convection Microwave

The Convection Microwave in the Van we just purchased needs replacing.

We have never had a Convection Microwave in previous Vans, so don't know the pros & cons, so unsure of what to replace it with. Previous Microwaves have been used more for bread storage than actual cooking.

What do you get the most use out of, or do you use either?

Thanks
Barry

  • I've heard you can make a dutch oven on the stove top do almost everything you can do with a regular oven. I have a porcelain lined one that works pretty well and is easy to clean.
  • I vote for the convection/Microwave combo as well.

I have one as my rig has no regular oven either. While I use the microwave most often it really is nice to have the convection feature as it cooks frozen pizza, toasts bread, bakes chicken, roasts meat and such much better than microwave.

I don't disagree regular ovens are better, but the point is in a Class B if you don't have a combination of a microwave/convection oven you aren't going to have the ability to bake and roast unless you have one or settle for an even lesser separate standalone space taking oven of some sort because I can't think of a North American converter that puts in built in ovens in a Class B.

A convection/microwave takes up the same space as a microwave only and just gives you the option of choice. They do cost more than a microwave alone if that is a consideration. Some foods (most) are probably better baked than microwaved when you have a choice. They both make excellent bread drawers. :)
  • I vote for the combo. We have our 1st convection/microwave in our coach and are still learning what to cook & how to cook it but I like having the option.

  • I've always had microwaves in my Bs, and although not proficient with the convection oven in my current B, I appreciate the versatility it provides.

I'd go with the combo micro-convection.
  • We don't have a regular oven, but we've found that we can do almost everything in our convection oven as we can in a regular oven. Still not real proficient with it yet, but getting there.

So, given the choice between the convection microwave and a regular microwave, I really can't see where anyone would not get the convection microwave.

  • We love our convection microwave. We sometimes use both the regular oven and the convection oven at the same time if we are cooking more than will fit in one or if we are cooking two things that require different temperatures.
