I am not a dealer defender but this last weekend opened my eyes to their plight as well. Many just can't afford to fix them all up and detail them prior to the sale. That is additional money spent that they may not recoup if they have to wholesale the unit if they can't sell it. The one I traveled to see was clean (washed) but had several issues that would take a significant investment on the dealer's part to rectify. They claimed that they would catch all the issues on their PDI and fix them prior to delivery. I don't have a lot of trust that that would be the case.
There is no excuse for dirty RVs with cigarette butts in the ashtrays. But I do kind of understand why they didn't put the 2 new tires on the inside duals, or fix the exhaust leak, or the cracks in the gel coat. Not every RV buyer (evidently) is as sharp eyed as I am. Showing them warts and all helps folks like me determine if the rig was maintained well or ridden hard and put away wet. The down side for them is that they will never be able to unload one of those to me. The true shame isn't on the dealers but on the owners who didn't take very good care of their RV while they had it.
