Monaco Knight 40DFT

WE are looking for a used MH and really like the 40DFT yr 2007-08. We also like the 2012-13 but has a navastar, can anyone give me feed back on these.

Thanks
  • Monaco's quality started going downhill in 07-08 before they went out of business and were sold off. Navistar has many many complaints on the forums. If it were me, and I am no expert, I would be looking at pre-2007 Monaco, Beaver, Holiday Rambler, Safari and any year Newmars. After 2007 new emmission standards including DEF took place. But that's just me. Good luck.
  • The 2012-2013 Navistar built coaches are just like any other coach. The MaxxForce 10 engine is great in spite of the non-owners saying otherwise. FYI, the MaxxForce 10 engine is not the engine that had issues, that was the larger 13-15 size engines.

Monaco's bankruptcy didn't happen until March of 2009 so it affected 2010 model and later vehicles. There is no data supporting your comments about their quality falling off ever....

I believe you that there is no Data. Just a lot of owners who post it on the forums. As we all know there is a higher percentage of unhappy owners that post on the forums than happy ones. So, who is right, I have no idea because like I said, I am no expert! There are many people that say that the quality dropped off for a year or more before the actual bankruptcy. Just opinions I know, which I believe the OP was asking for. If you have Data saying otherwise, they may be interested. I'm not, Data can say whatever you want it to say.

Not totally accurate. We had a new 2008 Monaco Dynasty built in January 2007 (went on the assembly line) and taking delivery in April 2007.

Our 2008 was of very good quality, new TV's (flat screen) excellent fit and finish on the cabinets, etc. Our chassis did require the DPF (diesel particulate filter) and after 7.5 yrs. and nearly 70,000 miles of ownership, the engine, transmission and DPF never gave us any trouble.

Now, if someone doesn't want the added emissions, that's one thing but to say that Monaco's quality suffered starting in 2007, I just don't believe that is true from our experience. We have friends that also bought a 2008 Dynasty which had the same quality as ours.

I'm not saying that there were no issues, we had teething pains as any new owner would. The quality of our unit, I feel, is what made it sell for a really decent price when we sold it last summer on consignment. People want our year Monaco's that were built in Oregon by the old Monaco.
