monochrome RVs

I am not due for a repaint. I was driving from L.A. home to Tucson, and wondering what big class A RVs would look like with single-color paint jobs.

I have seen a couple white ones, but not rich colors, metallics, etc.

Do you have a monochrome RV? Seen any good photos?

  • I would be tempted to have it wrapped to look like a partially-unwrapped stick of butter, or something like that. Easy to spot in the Walmart parking lot...

  • The swirls and fancy bits are a royal PITA, since they're mainly stick-ons. On the rig I have for sale, they're peeling a bit and have discolored in some areas. I guess at 12 years old, some discoloration is inevitable.

If I were to buy new (fat chance), I think i'd go for a two-tone scheme, dividing the colors at the house floor line on the outside and maybe doing the above roof-line area the same color as the lower section. Might look like a roast beef sandwich, tough!

On reflection, isn't it odd that "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean the same!
  • The swirls and fancy designs tend to break up the massive size of the unit. This makes them look a bit more manageable and does not present a solid wall of color. Think of camouflage, not that the designs serve that purpose but unrelieved solid colors actually stand out more than these swirls. Many Prevosts are two tone, solid dark upper color over a lower lighter color. THey look even more massive.

Over the road buses are solid because it is much less expense to paint and repaint - ask me - we are "camping" in a paint bay tonight waiting for the clearcoat to set up and avoiding threatened rain. Tiffin uses 4 colors and very elaborate designs.
  • I recently saw a Monaco Diplomat (2007 model) at Myrtle Beach, SC that was solid dark red/burgundy. The second owner told me the first owner ordered it that way from Monaco since he was a Harvard grad (must be Harvard's colors??). It was, IMO, a bit odd looking.
  • Think of a tour bus without the writing on the sides...you could even put a decal of a greyhound on the side....if that's your thing..:B....go for it!.....Dennis
  • I've seen black and it is very imposing. So is dark blue. You might be able to get away with a tan. BUT, I would suggest painting it metalic white. That way it is not the camper genaric white, but has some class to the color. Think of like the Cadillac Escalade. I think Lexus has an SUV that is that kind of white. Some of the white matalics with some gold tint look good with tan pin striping.
