Mopping up toilet water at 3 am!

I have a Thetford Aqua Magic Style II toilet. Two nights ago, when I visited it, there was water all over the bathroom floor and the toilet bowl was completely full. It had obviously overflowed. When I depressed the pedal, it burped at me and the water went down. After the cleanup, I assumed that the ball had not completely closed and that caused the water to continue to run into the bowl. So yesterday, I cleaned all around the ball, removing any calcium deposits. Well, the toilet gremlin struck again last night at 3 am! This time I was careful to look at the ball and it was completely closed, but the toilet bowl was full of water and overflowing.

Before tonight, what should I look for? I have a call in to a repairman, but he can't come for at least two days. I will turn off the outside water and turn the pump off and on as needed, but thought someone could steer me to the cause of this!

    X2 on the water shut off valve.

    Don't know why they don't install them when installing the toilet.

    Had the same problem. Wouldn't you know it one of the few times the toilet slide valve didn't leak down. It is simple just pull the valve and take it with you to be shore you get the right one. Takes about 15 minuets to change.

    Ours was a low water pressure issue. Wound up by replacing toilet.

    I replaced ours for the same reason a few years ago. Easy job and the parts weren't that expensive either.

    Ours was on a regulator at the time, it just decided it was going to ever-so-slightly leak through.

    Water valve would likely be your issue. Not too difficult to do yourself and videos on internet. I did it at same time replaced gasket and flapper silicone thingy that seals ball. Good luck!

    It might actually be called a regulator???

    Ball only keeps water in bowl Or lets it dump

    Water valve is leaking thru.
    Need to buy new water valve assembly and change it out

    In mean time..turn off water supply until you need to use it.

    When you replace water valve assembly.install a shutoff valve at same time so that you can isolate toilet separately in the future

    Don't have that exact model, but have had the same problem. Wife got up in the wee hours, and in order to keep the racket down so she wouldn't wake me up, she gently closed the flipper and the flush-thing. In the morning, what a mess, water everywhere.

    We concluded that there was a reason the flush mechanism was designed to pull the lever and let it snap back into place. It has never happened again. The rule now is "Snap closed with vigor!"
