There is not much wear data out there. About all I found was a 10 year old Motorcraft 5W-20 oil analysis report from a V10 Ford truck. The oil change interval was about 3000 miles:
here. Compare that with a Mobil 1 5W-20 in a E450 Class C with 4100 miles I posted a while back
here The older Motorcraft oil has higher Zinc and Phosphorus for antiwear due to the API SM & SN requirements now that the maximums be lower to increase the life of the catalytic converter. Other than that though the Mobil 1 has slightly lower iron wear in terms of ppm/1000 miles, 16 ppm for 4000 miles for Mobil 1 vs Motorcraft 19ppm for 3000 miles. Thats 6.33 ppm/1000 miles for Motorcraft, 4 ppm/1000 miles for Mobil 1.
