Motorcycle hitch carrier

Hi, I would like to carry my scooter on the hitch. I have a DP Cayman 34PDD. The scooter weights near 400 pounds and the hitch is rated for this weight.

I would like to know how to attach the scooter platform to the hitch. I am thinking of three tubing coming out the hitch, one in the middle to the receiver and one on each side from the hitch tubing, probably reinforced with a plate bolted to the frame.

Anyone with pictures / experience with this set up.

I do not want to pull a trailer or a car.
  • The Versahauler has a special bracket that clamps onto the receiver so that the platform does not rock or move up and down. It is very secure to the motor home. It insures that there are no rattles or noise of any kind.

It could be a bit heavy but I saw many on the road and it seems so easier to pull than a trailer. I have an enclosed trailer that I use to pull with my truck camper.

I would try to build it quite heavy duty so it does not wooble in the back.
  • we have a "tilt-a-rack" MC carrier

the 'ramp' is built in and slides out, the ramp is short but the rack tilts, making loading and unloading very easy
  • I was considering one of the motorcycle lifts for the back of my RV to carry my Harley Road King. After talking to a friend who had one, he was getting rid of it because of the damage it was causing to his bike. Remember that there is a wind pocket in that space behind the RV and anything on the road...dirt, rocks, trash, etc....gets picked up and swirled around in that wind space. If there's something in that space...say a motorcycle...then it's going to get pummeled by the debris and eventually you'll have a nicely sandblasted paint job. I decided on a lightweight enclosed trailer. Costs about the same, and MUCH better protection for the bike. Plus, it gives extra storage space if needed. Just what I decided and why.....
  • MrWizard - is that a Big Ruckus Clone? As tail heavy as they are, how well does it load on that pivot system?
The carrier I use is this. $150 + $40 shipping.
  • Thanks for all your suggestions.

Chopperbob, I went to see a welding shop and he quoted me like 600 to 800$ just to fit three tubes on the MH, and this did not include the MC Rack. Another one says around 600 without the rack. I will keep looking.

In two weeks there is a big camper's gathering in my area, I will go and check out the rigs.
  • I pull mine in an enclosed trailer.. It keeps it clean and protected from theft and also allows me to bring other stuff, like BBQ grills and tables and extra chairs.. Works good for me....

That is the best MC carrier I've ever seen.
  • I went to a welding shop and I will probably have to hitch receiver welded on each side of the hitch and install one hitch tube each side, then I will have a support build on it. I think this would be better than just a center hitch support.

I will let you know how it comes up.

    Thanks everyone
