Motorhome covers

Hey good folks,
We just picked up a 39' 2004 Winnebago Journey and we would like to get a cover for it. Any info/suggestions will be most appreciated.

~Thanks, John

Has survived two high winds so far at 55-60 mph, wind blows right thru the sun screen.

  • "stepdad"......I'm very finicky about keeping my vehicles clean and polished. When we bought our Diplomat years ago, I bought one of Adco's custom covers, $1000.00. It didn't rub the paint and was very well built, but it soon became a pain to put on. It was heavier than most, but I had built a box, atop a platform at the rear of the coach, so I could just pull it out and onto the roof. We found we used our RV so often that it just became too much. I found it easier to wax the coach 3 times a year then put the cover on and take it off about 10 times a year. We live in California, so the coach is used 12 months out of the year.

So....if you're young and don't mind climbing on the roof, go for it. I'm guessing that you have to park and winterize your coach each year and during that time I would cover it for the season, but the rest of the year, leave it off.
  • Thanks everyone for your replies, I appreciate it. I have a 2008 F-150 that still looks brand new because I wax it and baby it. If I waxed my motorhome once a year why wouldn't it still look good as the years roll by?

Our new pride and joy is a 2004 Winnebago Journey and it still looks great on the outside. Not perfect, but it still shines brightly. The inside still looks brand new. We're delighted.:B
  • Unfortunately, we are forced to park our coach outside, so we have always covered it. We have always purchased the Adco covers from Camping World. Do yourself a favor and buy the 3 year full replacement warranty, it is the best deal in town. We are on our third cover and it was replaced each time no questions asked, for just the price of the warranty. Our first cover ripped due to sharp edges here and there on the coach. I quickly learned that tennis balls come in handy to put over ladder and awning corners. Second cover just finally gave out due to the sun. The straps became brittle and ripped after 2 1/2 years.

They are a hassle to put on but I wouldn't leave a coach outside without one. Reason one, the sun beating down on your coach is brutal(at least here in AZ). No way around it and IMHO, even the best coat of wax with UV protection won't do as good as a cover. We use both FWIW. Reason two - a cover will keep your coach MUCH cleaner than leaving it out in the elements exposed. Even with our nasty monsoon storms, my coach was perfect when when I took the cover off. There was only a light coat of dust that was easily hosed off without even needing to wipe it.

We had a 38' Coachman DP that we just sold. We just purchased a 42' Monaco that I just ordered the cover for yesterday. Hope this helps.
  • The wind and rain will move the cover and scuff the clear coat.
Wash and wax....Put on tire covers and remove or cover wiper blades.
A pair of tube socks works well. Hold the blades off the glass with small foam cup under the arms. Make sure ALL the batteries stay charged.
  • I HAD A 99 SouthWind, and I put a cover on it the first year I had it,that winter in the wind and rain the cover moved around enough to rub all the corners and scuff the clear coat. so I sold it to a neighbor,he used it one time then he sold it. I don't know where it is now.

  • IMO, don't bother. Clean the coach really well and put a nice coat of wax on her and she'll be fine. The covers tend to move with the wind and damage the clear coat. YMMV....Dennis
