motorhome electrical-damon

at the present RV park, there is a Damon 2003, untrasport. The individual with the motorhome states that he has to run the Damon off his batteries even when he is hooked to shore power. he says that if he turns the inverter off that on the right side of motorhome everything goes off. the overhead lights, receptacles, the ref, the tv's, the micro wave/its fan/it;s light, the rear bedroom receptacles. Never heard of a motorhome that is setup to have to run off inverter even when hocked to shore power. any thoughts on the matter------he bought from dealer 3 months ago used; does not make since to me.
  • I have seen times where simply it is a bad connection at the shore power box. Unplug the cord then attach it again with a good push. May be the box and not the motorhome.
  • I have a 2003 Damon Ultrasport and do not have the problem.
  • If the inverter has an AC input (for battery charging and pass thur) as well as an AC output then whatever is connected to the output gets it's power from the inverter input (pass thru) when connected to shore power. Turning the inverter completely off would stop this flow of power.
I bet he thinks he's running "off the inverter" when it's really just passing power thru and charging the batteries.

Depends on the inverter and how he turns it off. I have a 2005 Damon Intruder with (And this is the important part) an AFTER MARKET inverter, Prosine 2.0 by Xantrex.

Now this inverter has a few different ways it can be turned "Off",,, From its remote control/display I can put the inverter in "Standby" mode.

but if I turn the unit off using the on-device switch, or using the remote plugged into the remote switch jack (This is a simple on/off switch, not the remote display/control panel) then it is OFF and no power flows through it.

In my case 12 volt lights will continue to work till the battery goes dead.

PROVIDED..the batteries are connected (in my case the inverter is before the disconnect switch so if you disconnect the batteries 12 volt systems do not work)
