Yes, you can fight it. You might not win, but you can certainly be a PITA to them.
Here in Anchorage a friend (who by the way owned an RV park) of one of the city council members didn't like the idea of RVs being able to park at WalMart or Cabella's so the council member drafted up a law against it. Boy did she catch a lot of flack from the locals and tourists over it. The locals could see the next step trying to prevent them from parking at home. It got dropped rather quickly. So make a lot of noise with editorials, emails to the council and mayor and so on.
