Mounting Sat Dome to Fiberglass Roof

I am replacing my old KVH sat dome with a Winegard In motion dome.

The new dome has 12 screws to fasten it to my fiberglass roof.

The old dome had 32 rivets holding it onto the roof.

Question:

What method did you use to mount a Sat Dome to your fiberglass roof?

  • The dome is installed and working with the 12 screws and Dicor.

It traveled 7 miles without falling off the roof.... :)
  • Thanks to all responding.

I guess I worry too much about the wind pressure sending the 23 lb dome aloft or moving around enough to cause leaks.

Screws and Dicor will be used.

I keep trying to make things difficult, that is why I ask for help....:o
  • Seal the old mount holes. I use standard Dicor rubber roof sealant and put a glob under each foot and drive the mount screws thru. The Dicor acts as a sealant AND Glue to hold the dome firmly in place. Doug
  • My KVH had about 8 or 10 mounting tabs. I used 1 1/2" screws, right into the roof. Works perfect.
  • This with screws, or this alone believe it or not

Idid much the same and used 6 short screws. Two on each forward mount and one on each rear mount with plenty of sealent under the mounts.
