Moving to Gasser

Well, we haven't posted in quite awhile due to a number of reasons, both coach and health. Suffice to say, the Proud Mary (our 03 Discovery 39S) that we loved and used well, is gone. Was it the third time a slide got stuck breaking camp? Was it the lightning strike that killed the Tranny? Or... It was just time due to both of our (but mostly DW) lack of trust. So, with trust being the new leader on the shopping list, yes even slightly ahead of DW's favorite floor plan, we decided to investigate gassers. The fit is much better for us pricewise. As in do we get another 8 year-old DP, or get a much newer gasser?

So, we really like the Thor Hurricane 34 series. And, we are actually looking at 2016 that are just under $100k. Or some 2014-15 models that come in a little lower. Good looks, I love the outdoor kitchen, LED lights, etc. Nice Rig!

At least unless anyone has any comments to change my mind. Y'all have been an integral part of our ride for years, so any input is welcomed. And as far as Thor is concerned, I also liked the Miramar, but it is a bit out of our range.

Thanks, Fred
  • I've had a couple of gas motorhomes and now own an 04 DP........I paid way less then what you are talking about and mine was like new with 25k miles always garage kept. To me, it's well worth the money to go diesel, even if you have to get a slightly older motor home. The air ride, less noise, handling can't be beat. Buying new, typically for what I've read and heard, you'll spend a lot of time in the shop initially correcting problems.
  • Thanks. DW loves the floor plans on the 2 Thor models we looked at (Miramar and Hurricane). Yes I have heard negative reports on Thor, but lots of positive as well. You can find negative reviews on Tiffin. Is Thor really any worse than any other?
  • You have a conundrum, indeed. Back in the day before deciding on a FW, and having driven a couple of DPs and owned a gasser, we would have gone with a used DP instead of a new gasser. Whatever you get, make sure the DW likes the floor plan.

It sounds like you have found a coach that you will be happy with. Go for it and enjoy your future travels, knowing you now have a full warranty.

...and with Thor your going to need that warranty. I would keep your Disco.

  • I most certainly can't complain about our 12 year old Mountain Aire. It's been a great coach. Good Luck and hope you find the one that works best for you.
  • Well, for whatever it's worth, our 15 year old 2000 Residency gas coach has served us well over the years virtually trouble free.

Good luck with your next coach whatever it may be.....:)
  • Must be more to it, spending $100k for a new one. Slide must have not been fixed right. A lightning strike should be covered by insurance.
    Good luck on your decision.

    Pogoil.
  • Yeah, that's my dilemma if we go to an A. Newer gas or older DP. How much driving will you be doing?
