My take on this is go ahead with a PURE SINE WAVE Inverter that will always work on anything you plug into it. You don't have to worry about it if you have a Pure Sine Wave Inverter. It is not only you to take the precautions but your family or friends who will see your 120VAC Receptacle being powered by the Modified Sine Wave Inverter and might destroy the appliance they plug into it. Any appliance that uses AC motors or transformers get very hot when powered by MSW Inverters.
It used to be there was a very big price difference between the PSW and MSW inverters but that is not the case anymore...
I use a 600WATT AIMS PURE SINE WAVE Inverter and it only cost $149 from AMAZON.
This runs my home entertainment items, cell phone and computer chargers, fan motors, electric blanket controllers, etc... when camping off the power grid.
Alot of folks will tell you their MSW setup works just fine for them but then again it might not work for you. Why chance it...
Just my thoughts...
