It's not required as far as I know. I've been going for a few years now and haven't seen anything that explicitly states that. BUT, it is a well-known matter of etiquette (and safety). I don't run my old, loud Onan at night nor do most people. Some of the people with the big rigs and quiet diesel inverter generators keep them running - you can barely hear them.
