My Dometic Power Awning opens unexpectedly, any ideas?

We hit the road in a couple days and would hate to have this thing try to open up on the road.

Its a weather pro with a remote control. We are currently using it in Florida. We've been traveling in our rig for the past 13 months with no problem. We've been at our current campground for 3 weeks with the same neighbors, the problem just started yesterday.

Also, I added water to coach batteries two days ago.

Thanks in advance

  • Also, you mention remote control. I just checked the Dometic website and see that they have a wireless handheld remote control so I assume this is what you have. It's possible that is your problem. Are you parked near a high power transmitter like a radio tower? Does your remote have a programmable code like the switches in a garage door opener? If yes, did you change those to something other than the factory default? Do any other RV;s in the area have a wireless remote awning like this and maybe their control is controlling your awning?
  • Someone might have a remote.Go to a mall parking lot around the holidays and see how many cars you can unlock with your car remote. It will surprise you how many, and yes the wife gets on to me for doing that.
  • Mine acts as though it is bat-dung crazy unless I override the auto mode. I recommend you do the same.

Do a web search on Dometic WeatherPro awning recall

That recall does not appear to apply to the OP's issue. The recall is for units made during a certain time period in 2013. The OP's rig is a 2012 model.
  • I was going to ask if it was possible your wind sensor switch was hooked up backwards. Instead of closing it when the wind gets too high it's opening it. But that wouldn't explain the problem just starting, unless maybe the wires shorted or something. Mine has an over ride switch for the wind sensor. Maybe put it in the over ride position and see if the problem continues with the sensor turned off.
