OK - a quick update. Decided to wait on the transmission cooler until I had another chance to drive it. Changed the coolant and the transmission fluid (Mercon V), new filter...and I installed an Autometer Trans Temp gauge - sensor installed in the test port on driver's side just above the pan. As described by others, the trans filter had popped off and was lying in the bottom of the pan, so I thought I had found the reason for the leak when I started backing up the coach in to my driveway. Wanted to check temps before doing anything else...
Drove it about 100 miles - 60-65 mph, no tow, just the motorhome and transmission temps stabilized at about 215F (Just above the 210F and confirmed by a laser thermometer)...Pulled in to the campground, up a steep hill and then had to back the coach a bit and I ended up with the same leak from the bell housing plug. Not sure how much I - maybe 1/2 to 1 quart. This is the second time this has happened...
I'm pretty sure 215F is too hot and I'm wondering if this contributes to my leaking fluid...for all I know, this transmission has always run this hot (no temp gauge).
I am looking right now at trying to find the Tru-cool?
