How do I tell if I'm running with the torque converter unlocked?
I wish I could answer that, Brother.
We used to have Torque Converters that did not lock. That slippage meant Stick Shifts got better gas mileage than Automatics. Then we went to Locking Torque Converters and Automatic mileage got a little better. The ones I think of, switched electrically. Then Overdrive, controlled electrically. The "E" in E4OD is "Electronic."
Now, I think most OD transmissions also feature a Locking Converter, and I don't know how it's controlled.
Your Chassis Year is 1993, right? And you know it's getting into OD, right? Is your 460 an TBI or an MPI engine? This leaves the question of "Is it in OD with Converter Locked?"
If that summary is right, maybe somebody here can answer. If you want, I'll attempt to find out, by inquiring on another forum. Your chassis is not set up OBD TWO, only OBD. So a good OBD2 Scanner might report Locking Status, but a 1993 doesn't offer that connectivity.
