I dumped Liberty Mutual years ago--worthless and expensive. Progressive has seemed to work for past 10 years.
So I thought also, for the last 9 years, up until this morning.
Had a claim on a 15 GMC 2500 in 16 and Progressive increased 42%. Accident forgiveness was a farce as any minor viloation voids it and you lose discounts. That being said I have been unable to get a better quote since. The policy is up for renewal March 3rd and lo and behold here comes Progressive with another 15% increase.
Liberty Mutual just got my business 15 minutes ago. 2015 GMC 2500, 2011 Honda CRV, 2017 Rockwood 23WS, full coverage on all and homeowners. Liberty Mutual is $550 cheaper per year all told for apples to apples coverage, and in a lot of areas higher coverage's and lower deductibles, especially on the homeowners. That's also with a 1 million umbrella policy thrown on top for good measure which required the auto insurance be upgraded to 250/500/250 from Progressives 100/300/100. They also price their policies based on a full year so not a renewal every 6 months as most others do, including progressive.
I may be back with Progressive next year, who knows. But all that Diamond level BS and loyal customer loving banter is a load of BS. I spent 45 minutes on the phone giving Progressive a chance to come close, even got about 4 rungs up the corporate ladder. Not in the cards.

We changed to Progressive with a stated value which will pay us what we paid no matter how long we own it.
You may want to read the docs. On our Progressive RV policy after X amount of time the stated value goes away and it then pays actual value + 25%, and you're paying a substantial premium for it. That's how they make their money. A lot of people keep the coverage once that clause kicks in even though its a bad value after a certain point. - Roger_in_VERMONExplorerNationwide may be alright for home or auto insurance but they are lacking when it comes to motorhome insurance. We purchased a motorhome 14 years ago Nationwide had us pay our premium on the value which at that time was $85,000.00. One and 1/2 years later the motorhome was a total loss in a warehouse fire. They offered me 1/3 of what I paid. It took me exactly one year and cooperation with the state commissioner of banking and insurance to finally get paid. I still did not get what I believe I should have. We changed to Progressive with a stated value which will pay us what we paid no matter how long we own it. We also have a diminishing deductible which goes down 1/4 for every year we do not have any claims. We have had a few claims since. We could not have been treated any better.
- jerseyjimExplorerA quick post here....called my agent and signed on with Progressive. I mentioned that National Interstate had told others to go with SafeCo.
Agent said Progressive and SafeCo are the same company. Different names for different states.
yes? - ferndaleflyerExplorer IIII dumped Liberty Mutual years ago--worthless and expensive. Progressive has seemed to work for past 10 years.
- jerseyjimExplorerJust got a mail from my agent....says Liberty Mutual is an excellent company (they represent them, among others) however, they would like me to consider Progressive RV insurance...as Progressive "more closely" provides the same coverages as National Interstate does(did), and I see the premium is just about what National Interstate was. Probably a few bucks less because the BOOK value dropped...as the years go on.......
2001 motorhome, BOOK VALUE coverage, plus fire, theft and collision. Note, I originally had FULL value until National Interstate jacked up the premiums considerably, so I opted for BOOK value that cut the premium in half.
When the time comes, I will find out the coverage difference and the premium difference between these two companies. If I remember, I will post them here.
I am aware (have heard, FWIW) that Progressive has a reputation of low-balling the first year....will keep an eye on that. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IILet us know what your premium is with Liberty Mutual. National Interstate says they are switching us to SafeCo. Should get the information when we get the mail forwarded to us today.
- jerseyjimExplorerI neglected to say (in my original post) that National Interstate was "automatically" changing me to Liberty Mutual. I'll wait to see what the premium and coverage is....of course, I can shop should I have to.
And...National Interstate should update their website...still have a page on insuring motorhomes.
"...is this a lug wrench?..." is not too far from reality. So many don't know...or really don't want to know things like changing oil or even tires.

Been with National Interstate from day 1...2001. One claim, no problems.
Got a notice yesterday that National Interstate is getting out of the "personal lines of insurance".
Liberty Mutual does alot of advertising on TV....good company ? opinions? Who else does RV insurance?
According to their commercials, They insure mostly dumb people, anyone, including teenagers, who gets stranded in the middle of the night because of a flat tire deserves it. My children, including my Daughter, were not allowed to drive until they could change a tire. - bullydogs1ExplorerI have Allied which I think is Nationwide..no claims, no accidents but before that I had Blue Sky..loved them, then they upped my new policy over $900 "because they could"..true story...then I switched..then I heard Blue Sky bailed from the RV market...
