Need 2002 Bounder/Workhorse advice

I am considering the purchase of a neighbors 2002 Bounder, 32 foot with the workhorse chassis. It has 22,000 miles on it, and is very nice inside, and everything operational. The price is reasonable. I don't know if the brake recall has been done, but I am even more concerned if I can even get new calipers if I need them. It's my understanding that Workhorse is bankrupt. I am good with a wrench, but if I can't get parts it's a moot point. Any opinions positive or negative regarding the rig or chassis I would appreciate. I want to give him an answer soon. Thanks to all in advance.

You won't have any problems getting parts for the chassis. There available everywhere. The brake problem was only on the W22 chassis and I'm not sure if it was affected in 2002. Anyway the Bounder is a great motorhome. Not a whole lot of frills but hey it's not all about that anyway. Our last motorhome was a Bounder. Had a great time and many, many miles of memories. Good luck on your decision and see you down the road. Be safe!

that is my concern also. they slapped the workhouse name on the last of the p-30/32 chassis which I had the misfortune of owning two.

I think the chassis is a W21. I need to check, but will find out today. I thought the W21 is included in the brake recall, but maybe I'm wrong. But when I search the NHTSA site that year Bounder is included.

It may be a typo but the brake recall is for the W20 and W22 chassis. I don't know what you mean when you say Bounder is included unless there is a manufacturer recall for an issue on the house portion of the coach. Fleetwood obviously is a manufacturer and Bounder being one of there coach lines. The coach portion has nothing to do with the chassis. Fleetwood used to use both Workhorse and Ford chassis's on there coaches. The recall for brakes would be Workhorse specific and as already mentioned another site (Irv2) has a specific forum there on Workhorse with an abundance of information. Have the vin # of the coach your looking at and address a question to "DriVer" on the topic of the brakes. He's great with information or can lead you to where you need answers to questions you may have on Workhorse. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  • I have not heard or seen anything on a W21 chassis. W16,W18, W20, W22, and W24 are the ones I know about. The brake recall was for the W20 and W22 chassis.

  • I have a 2001 Fleetwood Flair on a Workhorse built P32 Widetrack chassis.

It is true that most, if not all, chassis parts are available from various websites.

Check out these websites for more information:
    http://www.oemys-performance.com/
    https://www.ultrarvproducts.com/

Also, on iRV2.com website, there is a workhorse specific forum that will give you endless hours of reading.

    Good luck.
  • The parts are very much available. Just remember in the world of RV's it is mainly SOME of the house parts that are tough to get. Most house parts can be replaced at Home Depot or Lowes though.
  • Workhorse purchased the chassis business from GM and did continue building the P32 chassis. The W series chassis is a whole different thing. We had a Bounder on the P32 chassis and now a Winnebago on the W22 chassis. It's a good chassis and parts are available when needed. I would think your neighbor should have the paperwork on the recall if it was done. If not there is a Workhorse sub-forum on another site. A user there can run the VIN to see if there are any outstanding recalls on the chassis. BTW Workhorse was purchased by Navistar.
