Need Help Operating Atwood Levelegs System

Hi all. Recently purchased a 2010 Newmar Bay Star 2702 (gasser class A) equipped with the Atwood Levelegs System. Parked the MH in the driveway with a very slight decline. Pushed the AUTO button to extend legs. Front two legs raised the front wheels off the ground by three inches!!! The MH was level. Retracted all legs immediately to avoid possible damage. Requesting help from someone that has experience using this leveling system. I find the Atwood operation instructions somewhat vague. Feel free to call me at (910) 915-9648. Thank you much. R/Phil

  • Tires off the ground for leveling is OK... the instructions say not to jack it up to change a tire but leveling off the ground is OK... what scares me is lifting a rear tire off the ground... tire chocks used
  • If it was level-- it did what it was suppose to. If it wasn't level you have to go through the setup for leveling. Just follow the steps in the manual. If you are resetting level The one thing is after you get it level to where you are happy. You have to retract--which is the last step in setting the auto level position- you have to do this step for the system to remember the auto level.
  • Explain what you need to know. Do you feel the jacks should NOT have raised the tires off the ground? What is your complaint as it seems the jacks operated to specs. Doug
  • Sounds to me like it was working as advertised. I, personally, don't like my wheels off the ground and will use 2x10s to place under them to prevent it. Anytime I use boards under the tires I will use the same number or one more under the jacks in the same position (front jacks in your case) to prevent the Levelegs from extending too far. They are prone to failure when over extended.
