Looks like it wasn't a scam just lack of knowing how to do it to protect yourself. I have done this twice. Once I transferred the money to the lien holder and they released the lien and gave me the title. The other time the owner signed and gave me the title and I went to GMAC and paid off the lien and they gave me a lien release. No way would I give the owner the money and trust him to pay it off------
