New 6v house batteries & main battery losing charge

Replaced 2-6 volt house batteries because they weren't holding a charge. Immediately afterwards voltage dropped rapidly to about 12.8. Checked water - it's ok. Charged with generator and shore power t...

It's my understanding that when batteries are at rest with no load and not being charged 12.8v is a normal voltage level. However if when batteries are at rest with no load and the voltage drops below 12v then you have a problem..
