I have an original Stowmaster 5000 towbar that is 22yr. old. I have had the Roadmaster factory in Vancouver WA. overhaul it 4 times, the latest 2 yr. ago. Not once have they mentioned that "it is too old and should be replaced".
The original towbar I have has a round chromium centre bar where as the newer versions have stainless steel, the diameter of which is considerably smaller than the original chromium one. The rest of the towbar looks the same.
P.S. In 1992 when I first purchased the towbar, I had to visit the Roadmaster factory (which was near the Portland airport then) for a new safety chain, they took the towbar unit and welded extra corner gussets to the frame to strenghthen it.
