New RV- need Roadside Assistance??

Hey - Im new here! That's because were about to purchase out 1st MH (Entegra Vision 32V)...and like most large purchases- the dealer is trying to stuff me with the add on warranties.
My question is- the 24/7 Roadside Assistance.
The dealer is pushing CN's 27/7 Protect for $798 for 5 years and I know these "add-on's " are big $ to them.
My dilemma is...I already have roadside assist with my insurance carrier, and on the Ford MH chassis Ford has a 24/7 roadside assist for 5yr/60k miles....so what value would another 3rd party bring to the table?

so - whaddya think on the Roadside assistance if its already paid for in the Insurance- and from Ford?
  • I'm not a fan of roadside assistance plans. If you already have coverage under your insurance and the MH chassis, I really don't know what you are paying for.

And just having "someone to call" isn't really an answer for me. My sister had a bad year of blow outs on her motorhome a few years back. Had to wait on the side of the road for several hours for their carrier to come out and fix it. Even if you are unable to change a tire on your own, I still think you can do better for yourself. If you pick up the phone and google search trailer repair services, you will find someone to come out and fix your problem faster than Good Sam/AAA/just about anyone else will. Pay the bill yourself and turn the expense in to the coverage you already have.
  • Talk to your insurance carrier to include some type of breakdown or towing insurance.
Or are you getting insurance through the dealer too?

Most report fairly good service from local tow companies or mobile tire service. You just have to find them yourself when needed.
  • I have Roadside Assistance through Good Sam and thus far, after using it twice for blown tires, am VERY glad we had it. In both cases, we were a couple hundred miles away from home, (once on a Sunday), and had no idea where to start looking for a service center that would be able to handle a 36' Class A. Called Good Sam, and in a couple hours, we had a new tire on the way along with a service truck/tech that changed it for us. Yes, we had to pay for the tire(s), and no they were NOT discounted....infact, they were quite a bit above retail...argued the point later and was satisfied with the result. BUT, we were back on the road safely in a relatively short time, and for the most part were only slightly inconvenienced. I've renewed Good Sam RA each year since.

We also have Roadside Assistance through our insurance carrier, but it only reimburses the cost and does NOT help to locate services in your time of need.

ALL ROAD SIDE SERVICES ARE NOT EQUAL!!!!! Do a side by side comparison of what specific services each plan offers and what restrictions each plan has. i.e. are there milage limitations for each tow? What type of vehicles/RV's will they not tow? Will they tow you to a facility/shop that can actually fix your problem? Does the plan provide services throughout the U.S. i.e. AAA plan does not, it depends on what state or city you are in.

    +1

  • Check and see what is covered by the various roadside assistance plans: what kinds of vehicles (the insurance one may not cover an RV, but only cars and pickups and other similar sized vehicles, or may have limitations on services for big vehicles) and what kinds of difficulties (the Ford one may not cover a flat tire, for instance). Based on that information, you can make a better informed decision.

Coach net has a pretty good reputation in terms of being able to get help out when needed. Some others sometimes struggle when presented with something out of the ordinary like a vehicle that needs a commercial vehicle sized tow truck.
