Since I’m the person endangering others with a tire on the roof not tied down, a little explanation. A 22.5 tire fits snugly around a MaxAir vent cover that is 8” high. You would have to get the front end of the MH 16” in the air before the tire could clear the vent because of negative gravity...one ruff riding MH. Yes the tire needs protecting and I like alum foil and then plastic wrap. You need to put something under the tire to keep water from pooling. The picture in the link above sits against a 4” lip at the back of the rig. It’s never bounced over the lip so the strap is not doing anything as it cannot stop the tire from raising up. Have you ever gone airborne while driving your MH as that is what it would take to raise a tire up enough to go anywhere. In the middle of the roof there is very little wind to try and slide the tire. It’s a used tire and it only comes down when no other choice and I guess you’ve never had a truck tire place laugh at you because of the size tire you need. It’s nice having the last laugh.
