If you have taken the time to read over recent threads on this forum about searching for a used Class C, you are ahead of the game. Unless you have a lot of truck mechanic and RV repair and refurbishment skills, an old RV can be a money pit and your use for serious touring and camping can be delayed by having essential repairs and replacements done. If tires are over 5 years old per date code, they need replacement for your safety and other driver's safety. Major items like roof A/C, fridge, water heater, awnings, dash AC, engine cooling system and brakes may need overhaul or replacement at around 10 years old depending on usage. Old Class C's may have a carbureted engine, lacking power for grades at high altitudes and tending to overheat and vapor lock. Water damage may need expenive and time consuming structural and cosmetic repairs by a professional RV repair service. If you cannot afford a "cream puff" 3 or 4 year old RV, including all costs of ownership and usage, consider renting, it's expensive but cheaper than owning and maintaining an old rig. Don't try to use an old rig with old tires, brakes needing servicing, bad engine cooling system and non-functioning house box appliances, etc. A serious breakdown hundreds of miles from home can ruin a trip, may result in injury, and cost you a lot of money. People on these forums want to encourage new RV'ers but this kind of advice may save you a lot of grief.
