Many Parks along the Erie Canal that allow much hiking, biking etc. along the canal.
One thing to keep in mind, most RV Parks in NY close fairly soon because very cold weather is just around the corner. The park we are in closes on Oct. 20th.
If you choose Letchworth, the RV Parks are near the south entrance in Portageville. Keep that in mind.
State Parks Letchworth if you are lucky enough to find an open site. Allegany is nice especially Quaker area for more private sites Wellesley on St Lawrence
KOA in Lake Placid is awesome King Philips in Lake George has nice sites on upper hillside and much more reasonable $$ than Lake George Campground $$$$ KOA in Watkins Glen
This past summer found us in Pennsyl-delphia and New York (South Central, Syracuse and Southeast Corner...) we stayed in the state park system mostly... I would not recommend Syracuse (Green Lakes...) far too over used... But... 3X on Letchworth and the Grand Canyon of the east... Very nice!!! (even follow that down to Mansfield and Kettle Creek in PA (or start there...) Highly recommended... (but use Rt 13 because I-81 was a mess... Taking the rout through Ithica and Elmira was beautiful!!! And, of course, back tracking down Rt 17 to Middletown and Bear Mountain... Again... Very nice and highly recommended...
Wellesley Island state park in the Thousand Islands with camping that is open year around Not much nearby but beautiful walking trails and nice views of the Saint Lawrence river.
Letchworth State Park is known as the Grand Canyon of the East. The park is a great place to visit with a very relaxed atmosphere, and there are RV parks in the area.
To broad a question. What areas are you looking at in NY, Catskills, South Central (Corning region, Western NY, Niagara Region, Finger Lakes, Adirondack Region etc?
