Just got off the subject matter and hope to never ever be on this rough back country road again, but that's not the reason for my rant. Nor is the fact that instead of a nice welcome center when entering the state, we were welcomed with a toll ticket instead. We were on said annoyance for most of the way heading east from the PA line and except for using RT 5 along Lake Erie and into Buffalo. We paid like < $4 once, <$9 and then the mind blower, when we got off around Albany for $42.85. Yep, you heard right, as ridiculous that it might sound. I said it couldn't be right, but this kid insisted that it was cuz I was towing a car and high in the air, as he put it and it's kind of hard to argue while at the toll booth unless there was a place to pull over and go for a manager of sorts. I will send a copy of my receipt to the proper authorities, once I find them and not that I expect anyone to really care about what they might be doing to their tourist industry.Has anyone else encountered this example of gross injustice and what might have became of it, other than for never setting foot on NY soil again.

They don't have a Disney World in there state to pay for road repairs. LOL

Using the 2-axle passenger car rate, the highest per mile tolls were in CA at $0.35, and the lowest in NH at $0.03. You decided to travel the Thruway without an ezpass and without finding out how to travel for the same rate as a automobile. YOU DID NOT do your due diligence. so quit complaining. I hate to sound harsh but you are traveling without planning. Didn't you get a toll card when you got on the road at exit 50 in Buffalo? It had the rates you pay on it. You did not look? You did not ask? Then pay the charge and suck it up and learn from YOUR MISTAKE. For others it is I86 to Binghamton and the I88 to Albany NO TOLLS. Ten miles longer and maybe 20 minutes more but totally free

good thing you got off once, I think PA line to Albany is about $60.00 When you go back to FL take the Jersy Turnpike and see what that is

It is what it is. Terrible road conditions, high tolls. Welcome to NYS. Don't get me going on the taxes.
You can have taken route 5. No tolls, better scenery, lots of small towns. Your choice.

About a year or a year and a half ago all the moneygrubbers (pardon me, State Legislatures) decided they needed a raise in revenue because they spent all their tax money on stupid projects. Just about all raised tolls on bridges, tunnels and toll roads. Their main emphasis was to hit the minority constituents using the facilities such as heavy trucks, RV's and tourists passing through. It's so bad that DE charges $1 at each toll booth on SR1 during the week and $3 on weekends when the beach traffic hits. I can save $12 to $20 just by disconnecting my RV going over Chesapeake Bay and the Delaware river.

New York is one of the most outrageous of the eastern states, but they're not alone. Check before you travel and at the cost of a little time you can easily save a fuel fillup worth of dollars on tolls.

We just got back from NYS, it is actually pitiful, 3/4 of the stores in my home town are boarded up. there is no economy. I could go political but I won't.

That's the way we went, I-86 was a 75 mile per hour highway, not so any more even the trucks were doing 35 trying to dodge the pot holes.

PA pike from Pittsburg to Breezwood, 4 axles cost us $28.35 this past Monday & believe it or not, the highway wasnt as ruff as it was two years ago.
