Hello! I am completely new to the RV community. I am looking at a 1999 22' Winnebago Minnie (Chevy Chassis) to tow my small (2000lbs loaded) race car trailer and stay in the paddock during the race weekend.It has 59,000 miles and is very clean. Everything works and it looks to be well maintained. It has 6 new tires, just been serviced including new serpentine belt, cat. converter, and all fluids. I can't seem to find much info on this model as far as good/bad aspects, maintenance issues etc.The only things that are wrong with it is the awning is completely missing and you need to light the stove with a match. Apparently the pilot light does not work. I would appreciate any and all info and advice. Thanks!

My 2006 does not; I light it with a match. Newer stoves have electric igniters, not pilots.

I'm wondering if anyone who owns one has any good or bad experience with this model?

The engine/transmission combination might not be good enough to tow that big a load. Then you also need to know the tongue weight so you don't exceed the load capacity of the rear tires.I have a "small" trailer; it is 6X8 and holds one motorcycle. ;)P.S. no matter how good a shape it's in things will go wrong. How about the 12 V batteries; how old are they ?

The guy just sold it out from under me. I made arrangements to see it tomorrow and a guy that previously blew him off showed up last minute and took it. Oh well, business is business I guess. The search continues. Thanks for all your help...

I agree.

Our 2005 Winnebago Itasca Class C has generally excellent construction ... and I have been all over it inside and outside and underneath. Look under a Class C and look in behind it's cabinets and drawers to see really what's going on! From what I have researched and read in these forums over the years, other Class C makes rarely have anything over our Winnie product.

I wouldn't be afraid of a 1999 Winnie in good condition - other than it's engine and transmission being of an earlier vintage with some drawbacks.

Just a general comment. I have a 2003 Winnebago Mini. Much better construction/design features/materials then my previous Tioga and the Tioga before that. I used to think Lazy Daze were the only good Class C's but I think Winnebago's are on part with them.

Use a weight distribution hitch with anti-sway. That makes it much better.

That rig is getting to the age where coach condition is more important than mechanical condition. Look for evidence of delamination and leakage. Those aren't necessarily deal breakers, but those types of problems are usually more extensive than what the eye can see. You likely have a 480LE overdrive auto, with the 7.4L (454) V8 you won't know you are towing anything. As far as the range, most of those had a piezo ignitor, if it doesn't work it's no big deal to light with a match or lighter. The most expensive appliance (and most likely to have problems) is the evaporative refrigerator so check that thoroughly.
