Newbie Looking at Class C 1999 Minnie

Hello! I am completely new to the RV community. I am looking at a 1999 22' Winnebago Minnie (Chevy Chassis) to tow my small (2000lbs loaded) race car trailer and stay in the paddock during the race weekend.

It has 59,000 miles and is very clean. Everything works and it looks to be well maintained. It has 6 new tires, just been serviced including new serpentine belt, cat. converter, and all fluids. I can't seem to find much info on this model as far as good/bad aspects, maintenance issues etc.

The only things that are wrong with it is the awning is completely missing and you need to light the stove with a match. Apparently the pilot light does not work.

I would appreciate any and all info and advice. Thanks!

  • Check each tire's date code to verify that they are less than 5 years old and don't have sidewall cracks. Good tires of the proper type and load rating are critical to safety and avoiding breakdowns. Make sure brakes and engine cooling system are in good condition. Verify that RV generator runs properly when using roof AC and microwave oven. Make sure house and starter batteries are in good condition by load testing. Check operation of fresh water pump and converter charger. Good luck take a good tool kit and fixit supplies.

You REALLY NEED to find out what the tow rating is on that model. The engine/transmission combination might not be good enough to tow that big a load. Then you also need to know the tongue weight so you don't exceed the load capacity of the rear tires.

I have a "small" trailer; it is 6X8 and holds one motorcycle. ;)

P.S. no matter how good a shape it's in things will go wrong. How about the 12 V batteries; how old are they ?
Thanks for the reply. The tow rating is 3500lbs on that model with a max tongue weight of 350. My trailer is 2000lbs loaded and 300lb tongue weight so I should be ok. It has a 454 Chevy engine and I assume a TH400 trans which should be fine. He said the battery(s) is/are new.

    What is the asking price?
he is asking $10,500 but that's not what I will pay. Though it is a good price compared to what I've seen available. I am looking for a small ready to use Class C and the cheapest I could find anywhere around $14,000 with many more miles and not as good condition. there are a few old ones around for $5000-$6000 but they are in rough shape and need work.

The Winnebago website has info on the 1999 Minnie Winnie. Product literature, parts catalog, wiring diagrams, etc. Choose your year and model in the search boxes.

I'm not sure if RV's even had stove pilots at that time. My 2006 does not; I light it with a match. Newer stoves have electric igniters, not pilots.
Ok, thanks. That's good to know. I saw the Winnebago page you mentioned. I'm wondering if anyone who owns one has any good or bad experience with this model?
