We transitioned from a 50" sailboat we lived on for 10 years to a 43 ft trawler.

Now we have a 43' MH and what I can say....MH MUCH MUCH MUCH less expensive to operate and maintain. I remember after that a visit to West Marine one did not ket much change back from a $1,000 bill.

Shipyard for routine bottom work compared to an RV shop for routine maintenance...about $5,000 vs $500.

Slip rent vs RV park. 1000 to 35.

There are downsides and we do thing back about all the good thing about living on a boat and there were a lot. Do we miss it...yeah in many ways but we also love out new life.

We also transitioned from a large home to a 35' MY. After two years of boating the wife decided she wanted to MH. We bought a 32'Class C. We started living in the RV and used the boat weekends and some trips. Then we decided to sell the boat three years later. Because of a family situation we had to sell the Class C and settle down with a 1 year old. He is now 15, adopted, and a sophomore in High School. We now have a 40' Beaver DP and are getting ready to full time when the son graduates HS in 2018. Looking forward to traveling full time and meeting lots of fun people on the road!

Nice to see all the people that have transitioned peaceably from water to land. We were also liveaboards with our young sons. Like someone said other responsibilities brought us ashore and we kept that feeling with our MH. Good luck on the move.

Many, many of us have "graduated" from boating to motorhoming.

If our case from sailing (mostly 6 roundtrips Texas to the Bahamas plus some local Texas sailing).

While in the Kemah area, drive up to PPL on the SW side of Houston. You may find what you want, but it WILL give you an opportunity to look closely at dozens of coaches with no salesman hassling you. Can be a big help in starting to whittle down the "must haves", "desireables" and "no way's".

You will be able to look at a 300 mile trip in a day rather than a week.

The breeze in our back yard was 40 statute miles an hour gusting to 50 mph yesterday pm and last night. Truck camper sits aboard a flatbed wagon when not on the truck.

Rocking quite nicely in the breeze...

RV's like boats (I hear) are powered by burning $100 bills...

The difference between an RV and a Boat is pretty much only that water will leak out of an RV......
That and the lack of a gentle rock when you are on a moored out. (I still miss that so much.)
Some new vocabulary:
A pump-out is now a dump.
Alongside is now a campground and while you can step off you may not be close to others and you are still a long walk to what you want.
Shore power is still undependable.
FHU means Full Hookup and that includes shore power, city water and sewer hookups at your slip that is now called a campsite.
You can still tow a dinghy is you choose to, but it is most often referred to as a towed or toad.
Moored out is called Dry Camping and comes in three types.
- Blacktopping - A place in someone's parking lot or rest area.
- Flatspotting - Any place you can stay that nobody minds.
- Boondocking - Kind of like gunk-holing, a place of the beaten path with nothing but the earth below you and no noise at all.
Rallies are kind of like rendezvous, and also come in lots of varieties.
Speaking of rallies, you should get on the web and find the owners group for your coach. There will be people there that will know all about it and what it needs. There may be type-specific rallies, and these can be great because there are often manufactures representatives there that can do you a lot of good with recommendations and solutions to specific issues.
You should also join FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) it is inexpensive and has great value.

Still the same as along side:
Campground Wifi is usually poor and then someone will stream a movie and shut it down.
RV Resorts are like tourist slips, they cost more for not much more of anything.

Given where you are starting, you will find there to be nearly vertical learning curve and you should be settled in about a week. It took us a few days. - Literally

Weather will still be a big issue.
Potable water will still be a big issue.
Fuel will still be a big issue.
Navigation will still be a big issue.

Speaking of those, you have a computer, but get a smartphone and get at least GasBuddy and RVParky. There are others, but those are the two I use those two all the time.
If you can, get Street Atlas and a GPS for your computer. Even if you can get and carry paper charts. You can get the Rand McNally Atlas at any Walmart for about 7$. Most all Class As come with an inverter and you can use that for power for the laptop when underway. If you take the time to learn all about how to use Street Atlas, it will save you a lot of stress because you will know where you should end the day and when to look for fuel.

I actually started on this before the other three posted, but you see can the common thread?
