Your lights, fridge and furnace control boards all run on 12 v so they remain functional when no shore power is available.
The reason few rigs have INverters is because many devices that use 120 AC draw enough power to drain batteries quickly. A 13,500 btu AC for example, can kill a single battery in something like 15 minutes.
