newbie to Horizon170

Hi, I'm BRAND NEW to this RVing stuff. I just bought a 1988 Chevy Horizon170. It has the 5.0L engine with 97,000 miles on it. At any rate, it's in good shape on the outside.....but on the inside, another story. The propane/electric fridge, stove hood, and water pump are still there. From that forward....nothing. No sink, although the water pump is still there. No fresh water tank. No toilet/shower. I just got it and I "think" the gray/black water tank is still there. I know absolutely nothing about this and have tried and tried to find info on the 'net about this camper. I'm wanting to fix this up and need to know where to look. I'm wanting a clue on what was there and how to fix it back. I'm fairly handy so I'm sure I can handle any of the tasks at hand.
Oh...the bed is above the driver. This slides down a portion of the length of the van. No ladder.
Thanks for any help in advance.
  • Havenrick,
How goes it with your "new/old" 87 Falcon? I just FINALLY stopped the leaks in my windows, and am proceeding with the reupholstery and some other smaller projects. Hope to have it on the road by Fall. I've made a LOT of updates, send me a PM if you have any issues I might help with.
We had a huge rain last night, and I noticed that the carpet under the driver's foot area is damp - have you had that problem???

  • I bought an '87 Falcon 170 last Fall, and have been working on the coach off and on since then. The engine is in great shape, but I've run into quite a few issues with the coach. I'll watch your posts and see if there's anything I can help with.

  • I bought an '87 Falcon 170 with a Chevy engine last Fall. The engine is in great shape - 75 K miles, but I've done a lot of repair on the cabin. Repaired all plumbing leaks, replaced toilet, put in new tub faucet, took out broken Dometic fridge and replaced it with electric, installed microwave. My main problem right now is a leak in the side, sliding window. I replaced the rubber & felt gasket that was dry-rotted so hard the window wouldn't open; now the window opens but it leaks and I can't seem to find the cause. Does your side window work?

I'm also a new Falcon 190 owner. It's a 94 on a Dodge with 87K miles. It seems to be in great shape, though I have some minor things to fix. Is there such a thing as a manual for the coach. I have manuals for the appliances and some others, and the truck, but nothing for the coach. My generator isn't getting starting power, so I'm looking for a coach wiring diagram.

Thanks for any help that can be provided. If needed, I can scan some of the manuals.

  • I have a Falcon 190 on a Ford Chassis, we love it. Let me know if I can help with identifying anything.
  • We had a Horizon years ago and loved it! Horizon and Falcon owners might want to be aware of a 92 Ford Falcon for sale at gorvconnection.com in Lawton, OK for $2500. Apparently, the motor is shot but when I saw it online I thought "Man, that would be a buy for someone with a really good Horizon or Falcon for parts". They were asking $4500 and cut it to $2500 so I have no idea what they would sell it for. I don't know anything about that dealership but do know they show stuff at the OKC RV shows and have been in Lawton a long time.
  • It sounds as though someone let everything freeze and pulled out the damaged parts and didn't replace them. Not sure though. The Owners manual is practically useless as how it is equiped and no part numbers. Mine is on a Ford Chasis. Mine has a wet shower, a stainless steel kitchen sink and a rectangular fresh water tank about 12 inches square and 36 inches long. Both my holding tanks are located outsid the frame on the drivers side with seperate discharge outlets. I dump the black water tank, switch hose to the grey water and flush the line with grey water.
Good luck with repairs. Just look at a camper parts catalog and maybe you can find what you need. You may even find a parts camper on CL.
