With a motorhome, I don't care about MPG. I just track cost - much more eye opening.
At today's gas price in NY, $1 takes me 2 miles. Makes you think twice about heading out for a bottle of milk.
Next to depreciation, gas is now our biggest expense. All-in, 50 nights of camping costs us about $250 per night.
Do the math folks. RV'ing may be fun but it isn't cheap.
Well ain't that the truth. Put wheels under a small condo loaded with goodies and drive it down the road, diesel or gas, its not going to be cheap. You can save a little on fuel with a Sprinter based B, but who wants to spend months living in a stretched out metal tent. I might gripe about the price of gas at the pump making some oil barron super rich, but the mpg of my boat or rv is the cost of traveling in relative luxury. The guy going cross country in a Prius is spending plenty on a decent hotel that might give him bed bugs, taking showers that somebody with who knows what is suffering from and eating all his meals in fast food junk or pricy joints. If you can't afford the fuel, find a cheaper hobby/lifestyle.
