Newmar (Canyon Star) Dealers

Greetings:

My husband and I are zeroing in on our first Class A purchase. Right now the Newmar Canyon Star is looking like our top choice. We live in the northeast and I was wondering if anyone had comments on Newmar Dealers in the this part of the country - pro or con? We have already visited one where we were told a test drive was not permitted until papers were drawn up. If, after the test drive we decided to back out, the papers would be torn up and the deal negated. Is this common practice?

Any and all comments are greatly appreciated :).
  • Thank you all so very much for you thoughts and comments. It always helps to get opinions from those in the know :).
  • I would seriously question the part about signing the papers unless it was to cover their butts if you took it out and drove it and brought it back damaged, especially since you say you are looking at your first Class A. "You break it,you buy it" Especially a new high end coach like a Newmar. It is a whole new ball game driving anything as big as that.
When we were looking at for a class A after 20 years of pulling travel trailers as long as 35', only one dealer let us drive one and that was after we cleared the lot and were down the street and the salesman was someone I knew. None of the other 5 or 6,even let me behind the wheel, except when it was stopped. Not even the fact that I have a Class B CDL and had been driving tour and school buses for over ten years counted.
  • We bought our Newmar from Dave's RV in Danbury, CT. We could not have been happier with them I highly recommend them.
  • Don't get married to an area for dealer. Contact some larger high volume dealers for price and do factory delivery. Enjoy the trip home.
  • Absolutely walk away from that salesperson. Ask for another or find another dealer. Worse treatment I've ever heard of. That's as bad as a salesman throwing your trade in keys on the roof of dealership so you can't leave. Heard of that too!
  • It is absolutely NOT standard! A test drive is the forst thing I would do BEFORE signing papers or handing over $$! If the dealer won't let me test drive, I say----BYE BYE!

    Happy Trails! ;)
